What is Al Nour?

Al Nour Corporation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides Muslim students going into graduate schools and programs with financial aid.

Typically during undergraduate studies, a student receives financial aid, grants, or government help to fund them— but when it comes to attending graduate schools for law, medicine, engineering, or master’s programs, all that financial provision is no longer given. Most students then either have to take out loans, which are haram due to interest, or pay out of pocket, which can be extremely expensive— totaling to hundreds of thousands depending on the school. Many cannot afford to, or would not prefer to, go down either path.

Al Nour Corporation operates on an Interest-Free Loan Program to assist graduate and professional students in fields where financial aid is often insufficient. Many students who qualify for these programs face a unique financial barrier in addition to a religious/ethical consideration to uphold, and so the program was brought about in order to address this reality.

Mission Statement

What Al Nour Corporation seeks to do is offer zero-interest loans to help students avoid Riba. For instance, if $50,000 is given, the same $50,000 is expected back later. No interest, no fees, nothing extra— simply, a halal way to afford school. Since our program provides need-based educational loans with structured repayment terms, all repaid funds are reinvested into the loan program to assist future students, ensuring the program is sustainable and continues to serve those in need.

We believe in strengthening community by empowering students and providing them the opportunity to pursue their professional endeavors, without the financial and spiritual struggle. In our eyes, the pursuit of knowledge should be the pursuit of happiness.
